Global Campaign Urges Governments to Act on Palestinian Prisoners

International advocacy groups have launched a new campaign urging dozens of governments to intervene over the conditions and detention of thousands of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

Hawzah News Agency- The initiative, led by the Red Ribbons Campaign in partnership with the Sumud Flotilla and Palestinian civil society organizations, calls for the release of more than 9,600 Palestinian detainees.

Campaign organizers say the effort comes amid growing reports of alleged abuses inside Israeli detention facilities, including administrative detention without trial, torture, and medical neglect. They also cited concerns over restrictions on legal access and worsening humanitarian conditions in prisons.

The campaign builds on previous international mobilization linked to the detention of activists involved in flotilla missions to Gaza. According to organizers, earlier efforts generated over 1.2 million messages sent to government officials worldwide within a matter of days.

The campaign seeks to create what organizers describe as a “global wave of appeals” to highlight what they call “harsh and inhumane conditions” faced by detainees and to push for immediate international action.

Rights groups have repeatedly raised concerns about conditions in detention, including allegations of solitary confinement, physical and psychological abuse, and inadequate medical care. They have called for adherence to international humanitarian law and greater accountability regarding the treatment of detainees.

The campaign reflects mounting international pressure for investigations into detention practices, as advocacy groups seek stronger action from governments and international bodies.
